  
This very unusual mirror would have been made during the late 1800's. I really have never seen one before so I am not sure what it was used for exactly. The covering is the original velvet and is worn. There are applied trims on the top and the front of the shelf. The shelf has a thin paper on the top. I believe it is original also and would have protected the velvet from whatever the shelf was for. Possibly it held a comb if it is a dressing mirror. In todays world it might have been a makeup mirror. They certainly wore makeup. Whatever it is I know I like it. The back has a pocket.... again I do not know what for. 16" high x 11.5" wide
